Louis Mulcahy Pottery

Louis Mulcahy, one of the most famous potters in Ireland, has been seen by many in their travels on the beautiful Dingle Peninsula in the west of Ireland. Louis has been creating his pottery for almost 40 years. He may be the last of the large potters that produces all their pottery in Ireland. In 1975 Louis won first prize for pottery in the National Crafts Competition. He subsequently moved his workshop from Dublin to the Dingle Peninsula, with a vision - to create the aesthetically and technically best pottery possible. In 2004, Louis became the first Irish craftsman ever to receive an honorary degree from the National University of Ireland in recognition of his artistry and the prosperity it brought to his community, together with his support of the local culture, including the endangered Irish language. Louis Mulcahy has been acclaimed for his imaginative design and immaculate craftsmanship by the Times of Ireland. The New York Times called him "one of Ireland's most compelling artists".
